Spiller were held to 20 rushing yards, while the Clemson offense garnered zero net rushing yards, and Clemson did not make an offensive touchdown. (1-0) defeated Tennessee is a come-from-behind win over the Volunteers at the Rose Bowl on Monday night. The Bruins third-string QB threw four first half interceptions, but brought his team back with two fourth quarter touchdown drives to win in overtime.

Arkansas State (1-0) defeated Texas A&M in the Aggies' opener under new head coach Mike Sherman. The newly named Red Wolves forced four turnovers, defeated it's first Big XII opponent in 15 attempts, and ended the A&M's streak of 20-consecutive home opening victories.

East Carolina (1-0) defeated Virginia Tech 27-22 after the Pirates blocked a punt with less than two minutes remaining. The Pirates intercepted two passes from Hokie QB Sean Glennon, and Tech coach Frank Beamer, which has redshirted sophomore QB Tyrod Taylor, could not make a change for their inept QB play.

Bowling Green (1-0) defeated Pitt 27-17 for the MAC's first victory in Pittsburgh. In regards to hype, the two teams could not have entered the game further apart, as Pitt was predicted to challenge for the Big East Championship following last season's 13-9 season ending victory over West Virginia and Bowling Green was coming off a 63-7 blasting of Tulsa in the GMAC Bowl.
