Well you are always disappointed with a loss, and constantly arguing about a very questionable penalty call, but Georgia Tech lost this game; VaTech didn't win it. Yeah the Hokie defense held Dwyer to less than 30 yards, but stuffing him opened up Nesbitt, Cox, and the other B-backs. This game was lost by the Jackets, who TWO times fumbled the ball on good drives in VaTech territory, and lost the ball again on an errant pass by Nesbitt.
Props have to go out to both defenses, who held solid on almost all downs behind the ball. Further props have to go out to both QBs, who both kept their respective teams in the game.
Turnovers aside, the game came down to a third down rollout by Taylor, who looked like he was going to be sacked for a loss, but scrambled away, only to be "hit high, helmet to helmet" and get an automatic first down thanks to the 12th player on the field. A bad call, but I'm biased, that allowed VaTech to continue it's drive and get a game-winning field goal. Tech would threaten two possessions later, but Nesbitt overthrew Roddy Jones by a step, and Tech failed to get the first down.
The Loss aside, you have to be somewhat pleased with what Dr. Johnson has done with the Yellow Jackets. He's already ahead of schedule on the win category, and impressed me with how the team showed up in Blacksburg for yet another huge conference away game. With a little tweaking, and some better ball handling, this team is only going to get better. Dr. Wommack with the Defense has already truly impressed, managing to rush 4 most all the time, and still shut down opposing offenses.
Schedule in front of us really sets up well, and if we can get past Miss St, we can head into Clemson, 5-1
