LSU reclaims No. 1 ranking, Ducks rise to No. 2

For Immediate Release

And down goes No. 1 yet again. With only two games standing between Ohio State and almost assuredly a berth in the BCS National Championship Game, all eyes were on the Buckeyes trip to Ann Arbor for the annual grudge match against Michigan. Illinois had other thoughts, as the Illini took down yet another No. 1 team, 28-21 on Saturday. The loss gave way for LSU, which reclaimed the No. 1 ranking it lost last month following the Tigers' loss to Kentucky.

LSU, coming off a blowout win over Louisiana Tech, took 13 of 17 first place votes. Oregon, which received one first place vote, moved up one spot to No. 2, followed by Oklahoma. The Sooners need one win in it's next two games to claim a second straight Big XII championship berth. Undefeated Kansas, the only unbeaten BCS team remaining, moves up to No. 4 and received the final three first place votes. The Jayhawks are a win over Iowa State from setting up a monumental game against No. 5 Missouri on Thanksgiving weekend.

West Virginia, Ohio State, Georgia, Arizona State and Virginia Tech complete the top 10. The Bulldogs are the highest ranked teams with two losses; UGA moved up two spots following a 45-20 victory over rival Auburn. The Dawgs' win over the Tigers and their victory over Florida in October marked the first time in 25 years that Georgia defeated both rivals in 25 years.

The final six teams begin with USC, followed by Florida, Texas, Hawaii. Clemson and Virginia, both unranked in last week's poll, tied for the No. 15 spot. Florida's No. 12 ranking marks the Gators first appearance in the poll since losing to Georgia. Boston College, Michigan and Auburn all dropped from the poll.
