Johnson Era Begins at Ga Tech

by GT Jarad

Sitting in the Middle Deck, on the 8th row waiting for Kickoff of the "Perfect Option" (The preview song of which had two white guys acting like freaking morons singing "the perfect option") felt like an eternity. And of course we had to play defense first, making the fans wait for our first carry on offense, and likely first fumble on offense. But the Defense did as our defense has been doing, and really held the Ryan Perrilloux... I mean the Jacksonville offense to minimal production all night, barely 100 yards total offense in the first half.

The offense, on the other hand, really surprised everyone, coming out passing on the first play from scrimmage. A pass that would've probably been a TD, or at least 35+ yards was dropped by Roddy Jones (Maybe we should've kept a few receivers).
Dwyer and the running game clearly made a statement early. What looked to be a mediocre dive right, turned into a 21 yard TD run... a sample of what's to come. Throughout the game, that dive play garnered some 150+ yards... That's right, one play, 150+ yards. That's Paul Johnson's offense.

Nesbitt will have to improve his accuracy on plays when we do pass the ball. Granted some of the passes were drops, but in general he was trying to be too good with his passes. All in all, 350 yards on the ground, against any defense, is a vast improvement from Spring practice, and for now has silenced Johnson's critics. That will hopefully remain the case as Tech travels to Boston College on Saturday for their first ACC conference game.
