Week 13
Mizzou takes top spot, Hawaii up to No. 11
For Immediate Release
Just two weeks after returning to No. 1 in the Southern College Football poll, LSU relinquished their hold on the top spot - and gave up their chance to play for the BCS National Championship. The Tigers lost to rival Arkansas on Friday. Both LSU losses this season came to SEC opponents in triple overtime.
LSU wasn't the only team to go down, as No. 2 Kansas lost to No. 3 Missouri on Saturday night in Kansas City, Mo. The Jayhawks and Heisman contender Todd Reesing became the sixth No. 2 ranked team to fall this season. Missouri, following the 36-28 win, garnered nine first place votes to take over the top spot of the rankings. The Tigers will attempt to avenge their only loss of the season when they take on Oklahoma for the Big XII Championship.
West Virginia moved up to No. 2 after clinching the Big East Championship. The Moutaineers routed Connecticut 66-21 and are one game away from clinching a spot in the BCS National Championship Game. UWV received the remaining eight first place votes.
Ohio State, which played it's last game two weeks ago against Michigan, rose two spots to No. 3. The Buckeyes hold out hope for a potential return to the national championship game, but need either Missouri or West Virginia to fall. Georgia, the highest ranked two-loss team, rounds out the top five. The Bulldogs await their bowl destination as their regular season ended with Tennessee's four-overtime victory over Kentucky; Volunteers' victory clinched UT a berth in the SEC Championship Game.
Virginia Tech, coming off a win over rival Virginia, rose two spots to No. 6. Kansas fell five spots to No. 7, followed by USC, Oklahoma and Florida. The Trojans and Sooners are still capable of making return trips to BCS bowls - USC clinches a Rose Bowl berth with a victory over rival UCLA, while Oklahoma must defeat Missouri to win the Big XII.
Hawaii, the only remaining undefeated team in Division I-A, moved up three spots to No. 11, which is the Rainbow Warriors highest-ever ranking in the SCF poll. Hawaii defeated Boise State to win the WAC Championship and needs a win over Washington on Saturday to close out an undefeated regular season. Boston College slides up three spots to No. 12, followed by Tennessee, who will play LSU for the SEC championship this weekend. The Volunteers' victory over rival Kentucky gave UT it's first ranking in the top 16 this season.
Arizona State, following a blowout loss to USC at home on Thanksgiving night, dropped seven slots to No. 14, followed by Illinois. Clemson, coming off a last-minute victory over arch-rival South Carolina, returns to the poll at No. 16.

Unbeaten Kansas moves up to No. 2
For Immediate Release
Another weekend of upsets, which featured No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Oklahoma falling to unranked teams, has Kansas - the only unbeaten BCS team remaining - move up to No. 2. The Jayhawks, who play rival Missouri in Kansas City on Saturday, are one win away from taking its unbeaten record to the Big XII Championship Game. The Tigers, who moved up to No. 3 are also playing for a Big XII North Championship and keeping open the possibility of earning a trip to New Orleans to play for the BCS National Championship.
LSU, which defeated rival Ole Miss on Saturday, retained it's No. 1 ranking. The Bayou Bengals garnered 11 of 15 first place votes. Kansas received the remaining four votes.
West Virginia and Ohio State round out the top five. Georgia slid up two spots to No. 6, followed by Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and Oregon. The Sooners fell to Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, while the Ducks lost at Arizona last Thursday. Oregon also suffered another blow, as Heisman contender Dennis Dixon was injured during the game.
Dixon's injury has made Florida quarterback Tim Tebow the leading Heisman candidate. The Gators held their No. 12 ranking, one spot behind Southern California and just ahead of Texas and Hawaii. Boston College, coming off its victory over Clemson, clinched a spot in the ACC Championship Game and returned to the rankings at No. 15. The win over the Tigers in Death Valley was the Eagles first in three games.
Virginia, which hosts No. 8 Virginia Tech on Saturday, slide one spot to No. 16. The victor of the Commonwealth Cup will face Boston College in the ACC Championship Game.

LSU reclaims No. 1 ranking, Ducks rise to No. 2
For Immediate Release
And down goes No. 1 yet again. With only two games standing between Ohio State and almost assuredly a berth in the BCS National Championship Game, all eyes were on the Buckeyes trip to Ann Arbor for the annual grudge match against Michigan. Illinois had other thoughts, as the Illini took down yet another No. 1 team, 28-21 on Saturday. The loss gave way for LSU, which reclaimed the No. 1 ranking it lost last month following the Tigers' loss to Kentucky.
LSU, coming off a blowout win over Louisiana Tech, took 13 of 17 first place votes. Oregon, which received one first place vote, moved up one spot to No. 2, followed by Oklahoma. The Sooners need one win in it's next two games to claim a second straight Big XII championship berth. Undefeated Kansas, the only unbeaten BCS team remaining, moves up to No. 4 and received the final three first place votes. The Jayhawks are a win over Iowa State from setting up a monumental game against No. 5 Missouri on Thanksgiving weekend.
West Virginia, Ohio State, Georgia, Arizona State and Virginia Tech complete the top 10. The Bulldogs are the highest ranked teams with two losses; UGA moved up two spots following a 45-20 victory over rival Auburn. The Dawgs' win over the Tigers and their victory over Florida in October marked the first time in 25 years that Georgia defeated both rivals in 25 years.
The final six teams begin with USC, followed by Florida, Texas, Hawaii. Clemson and Virginia, both unranked in last week's poll, tied for the No. 15 spot. Florida's No. 12 ranking marks the Gators first appearance in the poll since losing to Georgia. Boston College, Michigan and Auburn all dropped from the poll.

Seventeen teams fill this week's SCF Poll
For Immediate Release
For the first time, there's more than the standard 16 teams in the Southern College Football Poll as both Texas and Connecticut tied for the No. 16 slot. Ohio State, following a dominating victory at Wisconsin, retained the No. 1 position. The Buckeyes, who received 15 of the 17 first place votes, have held the top ranking for four straight weeks.
LSU returned to No. 2 after the Tigers defeated Alabama 41-34 in Tuscaloosa. LSU once again came-from-behind in the fourth quarter, including a fourth down touchdown pass to tie the game. In the past month, the Tigers have defeated Florida, Auburn and now Alabama after trailing at the start of the final quarter. LSU received one first place vote.
Oregon jumped three spots to the third ranking in this week's poll. The Ducks defeated previously undefeated Arizona State 35-23. Oregon, which received the final first place vote, jumped over Oklahoma; the Sooners moved up one spot to No. 4 following their 42-14 win over Texas A&M. Aggies' coach Dennis Franchione is rumored to be on the verge of a buyout after A&M fell to 6-4 on the season. Franchione's reputation took a hit last month when word leaked that the coach was releasing private player information via a VIP newsletter to prominent boosters.
Kansas, the only other BCS unbeaten, moved up two spots to No. 5 following a 76-39 win over Nebraska. The 76 points were the most ever given up by a Nebraska team, which has Cornhusker coach Bill Callahan in the same boat as his Big XII counterpart in College Station. Callahan was reported earlier this week saying that he would not resign from his position.
West Virginia, Missouri, Arizona State, Boston College and Georgia complete the top 10. The Sun Devils and Eagles both experienced their first losses of the season on Saturday. B.C. fell to Florida State at home 27-17. Georgia, behind budding star Knowshon Morano, defeated Troy 44-34 on homecoming. Moreno is only the second Bulldog back to rush for more than 1,000 yards as a freshman.
Michigan held on to the No. 11 ranking following a close win over in-state rival Michigan State; the Wolverines are followed by Virginia Tech and Auburn. Hawaii, the final unbeaten in D-1A, fell two spots to No. 14. The Rainbow Warriors, who host Fresno State on Saturday, did not play last week. That game will be televised by ESPN2 at 11 p.m. EST.
Southern Cal returns to the poll after a one-week absence. After defeating Oregon State 24-3, the Trojans travel to Berkley to take on California this Saturday. Texas, which narrowly escaped Oklahoma State 38-35 after trailing by 21 points in the fourth quarter, dropped one spot into a tie for No. 16 with Connecticut. The Huskies defeated Rutgers 38-19 and remain atop the Big East standings with three games to play.
